In southern Sicily, the NGO Stiftung Pro Artenvielfalt is carrying out a highly successful conservation and restoration program in the Pantani Cuba-Longarini wetlands in the municipality of Pachino. As a final activity at the REST-COAST General Assembly, we visited the area and met the passionate team of technical and ornithological staff responsible for the conservation of the natural space.

A striking example of how a degraded area can be transformed into a vibrant wetland, hosting a wide variety of species, including the Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris). This transformation brings numerous benefits and co-benefits for the community, with a growing interest in ecotourism.

In such a brilliant Sicilian spring landscape, we bid farewell to our project colleagues, once again thanking the dedication of the fantastic team of Rosaria Ester Musumeci and Massimiliano Marino from the University of Catania. See you soon in Barcelona!
